About Neon Asteroids
Neon Asteroids brings the classic 1979 Atari arcade game to your browser with true Newtonian inertia physics — thrust adds velocity in your facing direction and nothing slows you down unless you fire retro-thrusters. Navigate irregular polygon asteroid fields rendered as hairline phosphor-vector geometry on pure black: every line drawn twice for that authentic CRT glow. Large asteroids split into two medium, medium into two small, small into dust. The UFO saucer appears after 10,000 points and fires aimed shots you'll need to dodge while juggling your momentum. Phase Shift replaces the classic hyperspace button — press H to phase through space, reappearing at a safe position at least 120px from every asteroid after a 1.5-second invulnerable shimmer, then wait out the 10-second cooldown arc on your HUD. Classic Mode runs infinite waves starting with 4 large asteroids and adding one per wave (capped at 8) with 3 lives and a local high score. Daily Challenge generates a deterministic asteroid field from the day's date using mulberry32 — every player worldwide faces the same field, earns wave emojis (🌑 clean / 🌓 one life lost / 🌗 two lives lost / 💥 game over), and shares a result card. Mobile virtual joystick on the left half of the screen, fire button and phase shift button on the right. One attempt per day — make it count.
How to Play
Arrow keys or WASD to rotate and thrust. Space to fire. H for Phase Shift. P or Escape to pause. On mobile: left-side joystick to rotate and thrust, right-side fire and phase shift buttons.
Tips & Strategies

What is the Daily Challenge?
Every day a unique asteroid field is seeded from the date so every player worldwide faces the same challenge. You get one attempt per day. Clear waves to earn moon-phase emojis and share your result.
What is Phase Shift?
Phase Shift is a safer hyperspace — press H and your ship becomes invulnerable for 1.5 seconds, then reappears at a safe location at least 120px from all asteroids. After using it there is a 10-second cooldown shown as a depleting arc on your HUD.
Does the game work on mobile?
Yes. A virtual joystick appears on the left half of the screen for rotation and thrust. Fire and Phase Shift buttons sit on the bottom right. Touch controls only appear when the browser detects a touch device.
Why does my ship keep drifting?
Neon Asteroids uses true Newtonian physics — there is no drag or deceleration. Your ship retains all velocity until you thrust in a different direction. This is the same physics as the original 1979 Atari cabinet.
